Artist Statement My paintings reflect a fascination with architectural space and the hard edged industrial materials used in its construction. During the creation of this series of paintings I have continued to explore city buildings and their spatial relationships through the surface of the canvas. I have developed a painting process whereby I repeatedly work my surface, building it up and breaking it down whilst incorporating the grid, line and colour. I use this layering technique to convey a sense of the city's historic and contemporary existence. I simplify the architectural structure so that it is merely represented by the essence of space. |
