Vicki Glazier
'New Paintings'
Robin Gibson Gallery
2006

Painted in Brisbane, Launceston and St Helens (Tasmania), the paintings are an understanding of the world around me.

For me, as a painter, the subject of still life creates excitement - colour, shape, pattern, light, dark, texture - all things which are the dynamics of art and design.
The subject is always in front of my palette and easel. You enter the painting - I make no demand to shape your ideas or to give any direction, excepting a view of simple reinterpretation.

The Blacksmith workshop paintings were created in the atmosphere of machinery and steel. The haphazard arrangements and their hardened shapes, left by the hands of blacksmiths and fire, represented a natural subject for me to paint.

The colourist still life pictures were painted in my home studio in Brisbane.
The studio of the artist, Robert Barnes, situated on a hill in sunny St Helens, a coastal town in north east Tasmania, provided further inspiration. These paintings show views, looking past still life, through windows to the landscape beyond.

I invite your participation in this pensive approach for the familiar.

"It has been obvious for some time that Vicki Glazier is one of Australia's
best artists.
She is particularly good as a colourist, although equally good at creating
vibrating volumes. In this regard, she is like the Scottish colourists of
the United Kingdom, or Margaret Preston in Australia.

In her new work she shows herself as more outstanding than ever and her new
still lives are quivering with light and excitement."

"It is a rare and wonderful moment when new paintings by Vicki Glazier are
exhibited.

Her technique is virtually unequalled in contemporary Australian still life
painting. Behold the bold, deliberate and luscious use of paint, and the
richness of colour.

The newest works do not disappoint, and are to be especially savoured for
both their delicacy and scarcity."
