I have been a practicing artist for 25years, producing work for both exhibitions
and selected galleries throughout Australia and America. I have been lucky enough to travel extensively throughout the world and find that my work is often a reflection of those experiences. I enjoy producing decorative functional ceramics, which has both meaning and substance.
The decorative process, which I use extensively in my work, is photographic screen-printing. The images are developed from old family photographs. The text which I have chosen, tell stories about early Australian social history. The maps illustrate fragments of journeys, which I have taken by both sea and land. Shape, texture and form are of paramount importance and essentially the object has to be simple as I use it as a vehicle for story telling.
Objects we use in our domestic environment are a deliberate choice, carefully chosen and often treasured.. I love the stark translucent qualities of porcelain. It is the perfect surface to decorate and a wonderful surface to present food on. All my pieces are hand thrown or slipcast and fired to1280-1300 degrees celsius.
