Patsy Hely
The vase & flower show III
Based in Canberra/Kamberi, Patsy Hely’s ceramics concentrate primarily on domestic forms.
Her work is either slipcast or handformed in porcelain and a primary concern is to document life as it plays out around her and, more specifically, to portray people, birds, landscapes and spaces she encounters. The works in The Vase and Flower Show III are hand formed with watercolour-like imagery drawn from each of these areas. Patsy trained at the then East Sydney Technical College (National Art School) between 1977 – 1979.
She has exhibited widely and her work is held in both national and international public collections. As an educator, she taught at Southern Cross University 1989-2001 and the ANU School of Art 2003-2014; she has a PhD from the Australian National University (2007) ‘Ceramics and the articulation of place’.
