The vase & flower show III
Sassy is a Sydney based artist interested in the history of ceramics, objects and ideas.
Since discovering the medium of clay, she has extended the idea of what ceramics can be, especially with familiar forms such as domestic ceramics. Plates, cups and vases can be the carriers of universal messages and personal sentiments and Sassy has taken this idea to be a form of contemporary social media for herself.
The Vase and Flower Show developed as a result of the Covid pandemic in 2020 when the world was restricted to domestic interiors. Sassy started the project as a new way to appreciate and advocate for ceramics in Australia. By raising the status of an everyday object – a vase of flowers – the invited artists reveal the vase as both an art object and a functional ware; something not to be hidden at the back of the cupboard when not in use. This is the third time she has curated the show.
Sassy studied painting at Sydney College of the Art and undertook a Masters in ceramics at National Art School in 2018. Her work is represented in national public collections including the Powerhouse Museum, Shoalhaven Regional Gallery, Bathurst Regional Gallery and the Art Gallery of Ballarat.
